Chuyen Tinh Non Song (Soldiers' Romance), a Vietnamese ballet about two generations of a family that fought foreign aggression, will be performed at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on May 9-10.

The HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform the Soldiers' Romance, which spans 30 years starting in 1945 when Tri, a Hanoi-born soldier, leaves to fight the French re-occupation of the south.

The dance describes Tri's love for a young guerrilla Nghia, a native of the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, their marriage and then the romance between their son Kiet and a guerilla named Linh, also in the south. It ends with the reunion of the family in 1975 when the south is liberated and peace finally returns to the country.

Popular folk music from southern Vietnam is used for the ballet which is a combination of western and traditional Vietnamese dances.
