Ten young artists from Ho Chi Minh City received US$500 each from Australia’s Melbourne city on December 27 under the 2007 Young Artist Grants Programme.
The artists will also have the opportunity to have their works – mostly paintings and photos – exhibited in Melbourne.
Melbourne’s mayor John So said the grants capture the most creative and ambitious works by emerging artists who have had little exposure.
Australian consulate in HCM City Mal Skelly said: “I’m very pleased to be able to support this initiative… The programme not only provides financial support but also encourages the selected young artists in HCM City to pursue their artistic endeavours.”
“The Young Artist Grants programme also aims to enrich the cultural life of HCM City, thus strengthening the close links between the two cities,” he said.
