A high quality contemporary music programme entitled “Wishing upon the Moon” will take place in Hanoi on June 18 and HCM City on June 20 with the participation of leading artists from Denmark and Vietnam, according to the Danish Embassy.

The concerts present two well-known composers and musicians, Quoc Trung and Niels Lan Doky, in collaboration with the popular Vietnamese singers Thanh Lam and Tung Duong. As a meeting between traditional music and contemporary beats and rhythms, a fusion of traditional and electronic instruments, ‘Wishing upon the Moon’ results in contemporary and engaging world music with distinct Vietnamese features.

The VND460 million programme is funded by the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) under the Danish Embassy and expected to be performed at the prestigious Roskilde Festival and at Pumpehuset Concert Hall, Copenhagen, in Denmark later this month.

There further projects supported by CDEF will include “New Music: a Composer and Concert Project between Vietnam and Denmark”, “A look at Vietnamese Contemporary Ballet” and the European Jazz Festival 2006 in Vietnam.
