Vietnam’s meritorious artist Hong Ngat won a gold medal in the folk music category at the ASEAN Golden Voice Festival 2008, which closed in HCM City on October 19.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese singers Ngoc Anh and Minh Quan won silver medals in the pop music category. Dam Vinh Hung is the only person who won two silvers in both folk and pop music categories. Malaysian singer Nur Nadia Fadilla Abu Bakar bagged a gold medal in the folk music category while Reynaldo Raymond Pagi won a silver in the pop music category.

The festival attracted the participation of 30 leading singers from ASEAN countries and three guests of honour from China, the Republic of Korea and Bulgaria.

The festival has become an important cultural event, contributing to strengthening solidarity and friendship among ASEAN countries in the region.

It has also offered an opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its music embedded with its unique cultural identity to the world.

The event was initiated by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and co-organised by Radio the Voice of Vietnam, and HCM City Television.
