This convention was approved by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 33rd session in Paris in October 2005.
The convention affirms that countries have their rights to self-reliance in maintaining, approving and implementing policies and measures to protect cultural expressions in their territories in case these cultural expressions are facing the risk of distinction, being seriously threatened or needing to be protected at any cost.
Participating in the convention will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese to promote exchanges through preferential treatments given the artists, cultural activists and cultural experts, as well as Vietnamese goods and cultural services within suitable institutions and legal framework. It will provide an opportunity for the country to introduce its culture and polices on cultural development in the international integration process, aimed at developing Vietnamese cultural values.
The Prime Minister agreed on Vietnam’s participation in the convention and asked the Ministry of Culture and Information to complete all necessary procedures.
