Vietnam will send six samples of cloth made from natural fibre to a fashion festival to be held in Warsaw, Poland, in June by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as part of the International Year of Natural Fibre.
These samples will include cloth made of flax created by H’Mong ethnic people in northern mountainous Ha Giang province, cotton by Muong ethnic people in northern Hoa Binh province and ramie fibre and silk by an artisan in Van Phuc Silk village, northern Ha Tay province.
Vietnam will also send a sample of cloth made of ramie fibre believed to originate from the Dong Son culture 2,100 years ago.
The event is expected to help restore the natural fibre production and manual weaving industry, which is on the verge of falling into oblivion in many developing countries.
