The general assembly of countries of the intangible heritage preservation treaty opened its first session in Paris, France with the participation of 45 member countries, observers and some international organisations.

At the session, participants discussed operation regulations of the assembly and the inter-governmental committee for intangible heritage preservation.

Speaking at the session, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UNESCO, Ambassador Vu Duc Tam affirmed Vietnam’s wish to contribute more effectively to the field of intangible heritage preservation by becoming a member of the committee.

After the session, an inter-governmental committee for intangible heritage preservation was set up with 18 member countries. Vietnam is the only country in the Southeast Asian region elected to the committee.

The committee will hold its first session in October in Algeria.
