Vietnamese researchers and Lao partners have recently collected 116 objects in Vientiane and Savannaket provinces of Laos to prepare for an exhibition on cultures of Southeast Asian countries,
due to take place in late 2008 at the Vietnam Institute of Ethnology.
The objects include household appliances, handicraft items, tools and types of script. They were found during field work in the three communes of Seno, Phalansay and Se Pon in Savannakhet province, where a study will be conducted to find out the impacts of the East-West Economic Corridor on residents living along Route 9. The study is part of a project sponsored by the Rockefeller Fund to strengthen the network of museums and agencies in charge of cultural affairs in the Mekong Delta, as well as to deepen the understanding of Southeast Asia.
