A traditional handicraft festival celebrating the Vietnam-Japan Cultural Days opened in the ancient town of Hoi An on August 5 by the Local People’s Committee and the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

A Japanese modern life photo exhibition and artefacts, including photos, depicting the traditional friendship, co-operation and historical ties between Vietnam and Japan was held on the opening day.

In the next two days, there will be Japanese calligraphy and "origami" paper folding art, folk games and Japanese cooking classes, and many other activities.

Visitors will have the opportunity to watch traditional Japanese drum performances. For those who are nostalgic for second grade, tug-of-war games will also be held.

"Obondori," a 500-year-old dance performed during the Obon Summer Festival in Japan, and Vietnam's folk dance "Trong Com" will take place on August 7, the last day of the festival.

Audiences who yearn for academic seminars can join two workshops entitled

"Environment in Hoi An" and "World Heritage Preservation" with the participation of experts from the two countries.
