The Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee held a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on August 7 to announce the first international gong festival to be held in Vietnam.
The event, which will take place from November 12-15 in Pleiku city, Gia Lai province, is expected to draw over 30,000 people.
The festival will feature Central Highland gong culture, a unique Vietnamese art form recognised as an Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The highlight of the festival will be Central Highland gongs being performed at several venues such as Dong Xanh Culture Park, Dien Hong Park and 17/3 Square.
Additional activities such as a conference on investment promotion, a Vietnamese goods fair, a small industrial and handicraft village and a food festival.
