An Overview of Vietnamese Cinema will offer locals a mixture of contemporary documentaries and feature films from October 4-8, and an exhibition of Vietnamese film posters will also be on show.
Canh Dong Bat Tan (Floating Lives) by director Nguyen Phan Quang Binh will be screened at 9pm tomorrow. The film based on writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu's short story Boundless Rice Fields, which was awarded the best story prize by the Viet Nam Writers' Association in 2007. It portrays the life of a family separated from the mainstream of modern society, yet containing within its microcosm the complex layers and dramas of human relationship: conjugal life, sexual trauma, and the failures and bonds of fatherhood, brotherhood and sisterhood.
A special night featuring Vietnamese documentaries will also be held on October 6. Vietnamese film directors and actress Do Hai Yen will meet local audience at the screenings.
The activities are being co-organised by the Viet Nam Embassy in Belgium, Wallonie-Bruxelles International and Viet Nam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
