Paintings on the themes of history, landscape, human beings, and daily life in cities and rural areas help introduce the Japanese public to Vietnam’s cultural beauty, as well as the country’s unique art of lacquer painting.

A Vietnamese lacquer painting exhibition is currently open in Tokyo, attracting a wide spectrum of viewers from Japan.

The event is co-sponsored by the Vietnamese embassy in Japan, the Japan International Exchange Foundation and some Japanese businesses in Vietnam such as the Red River Sun Company and Garden View Court.

The exhibition displays 41 lacquer paintings of all sizes on various themes, which feature the beauty of Vietnamese culture.

"Vietnamese lacquer paintings have their own distinctive features in addition to common Asian characteristics," said Mr Nishikawa – senior advisor of the Red River Sun Company. "The meanings contained in the paintings are not only comprehensive but also philosophically profound. We would like to introduce Japanese people to these sophisticated paintings so that they can understand more about Vietnamese culture and the multifaceted relations between Vietnam and Japan can be enhanced."

The 41 lacquer works were previously shown in Japan’s imperial city of Kyoto, and are now introduced in Tokyo before moving to the northernmost area of Sapporo.
