Vietnam wants to increase cooperation with the Southeast Asia Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SARBICA) and its members in the collection, management, preservation and use of archives.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made the remarks on October 2 in Hanoi at a reception for Pitt Kuan Wah, Director of the National Archives of Singapore and SARBICA’s President.

The meeting took place on the heels of the 17th SARBICA Executive Board meeting and a seminar entitled “Digitalization of archival records – Sharing experiences” held in Hanoi from October 1-2.

At the meeting, Mr Nhan emphasized that Vietnam hopes for more cooperation in the application of digitalization and other information technologies in archival work.

In response, Director Wah praised the great attention that the Vietnamese government has paid to archiving and confirmed that Singapore is willing to increase cooperation with Vietnam, especially through the sharing of experience and updated information on professional archival science.

Founded on 1968 in Kuala Lumpur, SARBICA is the first branch of the International Council on Archives in the region. It now consists of all ten ASEAN countries.
