This means Vietnam currently tops the Southeast Asian region, followed by Thailand (122nd), Indonesia (142nd) and Singapore (145th), and stands at 13th place in Asia.
Vietnam's great jump in the FIFA rankings is the result of three recent victories, one against Qatar and two against Macau, in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
This is the first time in seven years that Vietnam has returned to its position in the FIFA top 100. The country previously stood at 96th position in September 2004. Its highest ranking, 84th place, was secured in September 1998.
At present, Spain still leads the world with 1,564 points, ahead of the Netherlands with 1,365 points and Germany, 1,345 points.
FIFA will announce its next rankings on January 18, 2012.
