A wide range of activities took place in the Mekong Delta on April 12 to celebrate the Chol Chnam Thmay Festival.

Tra Cu district in Tra Vinh province held get-togethers for social beneficiary families, retired officers and representatives from pagodas, presented 177 gifts and visited 44 Khmer pagodas. In particular, Tram Be, an outstanding businessman in Ho Chi Minh City, whose native place is Tram Cu, donated 1,200 tonnes of rice for 9,500 Khmer households in nine communes.

 

In the meantime, Bac Lieu Provincial authorities visited and presented gifts to 60 pagodas and outstanding families.

 

In Soc Trang province, which is home to a large number of Khmer ethnic people, the ethnic board offered 62 gifts worth VND200,000 each to retired officers and social beneficiary families. Many cultural activities were also held on the occasion.

 

The University of An Giang awarded 42 outstanding Khmer students and provided financial assistance to poor students to help them enjoy the festival. An Giang’s police also offered 157 poor students VND50,000 each.
