The UPU Letter Writing Contest - Vietnam 2007 was launched at the Giang Vo Primary School in Hanoi on October 9.

The contest will offer one first prize, two second prizes, five third prizes and 30 consolation prizes for individuals, as well as other prizes for schools with winners of high prizes.

The first-prize letter will be sent to the UPU International Letter Writing Contest, held annually by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to help children develop their writing abilities and cognitive skills, as well as strengthening the friendship among nations.

This year’s contest is themed "Imagine that you are a wild animal and your habitat is being threatened by changes of the climate and the environment. Write a letter to human beings, asking them to help you survive" in response to the millennium goal on sustainable development, especially in 2007 - the International Polar Year.

Vietnam has participated in the UPU Contest since 1987 and has won three third prizes and two consolation prizes.
