Vietnam suffered a 0-4 defeat against Australia and dropped down to the bottom of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Youth Championship in Ho Chi Minh City on September 4.
  • U19 Vietnam lost to Iran in opening match

The team made a good start and in the 20th minute, Thai Sung ran into the opponent’s box, firing the ball from 15m. Australian goalkeeper Munro had little trouble stopping it.

Five minutes later, the hosts had another chance to open the scoring when Xuan Nam dribbled past an Australian defender but again failed to beat the goalie.

Australia striked back and had their first goal in the 29th minute after Woodcock passed the ball to Edwards, who hammered it from 15m into the far corner of the net.

In the 31st minute, Anh Tuan’s powerful long shot stunned Munro but it went over the crossbar.

In the second half, the Vietnamese players’ stamina drained fast and they could not prevent the stronger Australian strikers widening the gap.

In the 55th minute, Daish received a pass from the wing and tapped it past goalkeeper Son Hai.

Makrounas successfully made it 0-3 just three minutes later in similar circumstances.

Seven minutes before the final whistle, Taggart concluded the match defeating Hai again.

In an earlier match, Iran defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to top the rankings after two rounds.
