U19 Vietnam smash Brunei 6-1

(VOV) - U19 Vietnam crushed their underdogs Brunei 6-1 in their last Group B match at the ASEAN U19 Youth Football Championship, continuing their winning streak.

Captain Xuan Truong, who suffered from a serious injury during the September 16 match against hosts Indonesia, did not join the line-up, and he is said to watch his team mates play till the end of the tournament.

Chief coach Grachen Guillaume decided to let goalie Van Truong, defender Dong Trieu, strikers Cong Phuong and Van Toan sit on the substitute bench and test a number of young players’ skills.

Despite a substitute line-up, Vietnam dominated the game, scoring three goals each in both halves before Brunei struck their only goal in the second half.

Group winners Vietnam will take on Laos in a semi-final match on September 20.

If Vietnam outplay Laos, they are likely to enter the final encounter against hosts Indonesia that only meet Timor Leste in the second semi-final.
