The Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Hanoi coordinated with Centre for East-West Cultures and Languages on March 27 to organise a ceremony to award honourary certificate from the Russian Writer’s Association to translator Thuy Toan to record his contribution to translating Russian literature.
On the occasion translator Thuy Toan introduced a newly published Punin collection of poems.
Translator Thuy Toan was born in 1936. He was sent to study abroad in a language faculty in the Soviet Union when he was 16 years old. After graduating, he returned to the country and worked as a teacher, collaborated with many newspapers by translating poetry. He has been elected as chairman of translation literature council, part of the Vietnam Writer’s Association since 1995.
Sixty books translated by him, including more than 10 poetry collections have been printed up to present. He is considered one of top translators of Puskin’s poetry.
