Folk songs that are all performed with Vietnam’s traditional musical instruments are attracting the attention of Japanese audiences during a Vietnamese traditional music performance’s tour of the land of the Rising Sun from October 3-26.

With the aim of calling for help for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin victims, the troupe, called “Peach Blossom”, is scheduled to deliver performances in 20 localities from the centre to the south of Japan, including Tokyo city, Chiba, Fukuoka and Hiroshima prefectures.

The troupe includes artists those from the Bong Sen Theatre and the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory.

According to Nguyen Hoang Kim Quang, head of the Bong Sen theatre, the event, to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, does not only aim to raise funds for AO victims in northern province of Thai Binh, but also help Japanese audiences understand more about Vietnamese traditional musical instruments in particular, and the country’s culture in general.

The performances are annual activities initiated by the Japan-Vietnam Peace and Friendship Promotion Council (JVPF) and the International Friendship and Culture Centre (IFCC) in 1996, with the aim of raising funds for charitable activities in Vietnam.
