Tourists to Laos will have the chance to learn about the culture and traditions of the country and those of its neighbours, Thailand and Vietnam, when paying a visit to a culture village to be built in Bolykhamxay province.

The agreement to set up the “Village of culture”, a 197-ha facility in Phayath commune in Bolykhamxay, was recently signed by the authorities of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces of Vietnam, Bolikhamxay and Khammouan provinces of Laos and NongKhai, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom provinces of Thailand.

In the first phase, a park, a parking area and a trading centre will be built in the village, while various models demonstrating traditional villages from the three countries will be built in the next phase. Construction of the village is expected to be completed by 2008.

According to project officers, hotels, restaurants and other support facilities will also be built to serve tourists visiting the village.
