A torch procession entitled “Vietnam’s torch following Uncle Ho’s footsteps” arrived in central Da Nang city on August 20.

The torch, carried by weightlifter Hoang Anh Tuan, who has just won a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, was then handed over to the Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee, Tran Van Minh.

This is the second time the torch procession has been held at the initiative of the HCM City TV Station in co-ordination with other agencies and organizations.

On the occasion, the torch procession’s organising board donated VND50 million to the Da Nang Fund for the Poor and granted 20 scholarships to poor outstanding students in the city.

As scheduled, the torch will cross 36 provinces and cities along the country, from Cao Bang province in up north to the southernmost province of Ca Mau, before stopping at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in HCM City on September 2.

The event, part of celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), aims to push up the movement “studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples”.
