Vietnam’s world No11 badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh has qualified for the third round of the ongoing Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 after defeating Indian rival Anand Pawar 2-0 on May 3.

Minh faced tough competition against Pawar in the first game to win with a 22-20 score, then claimed an easy win of 21-11 in the second set to finish the match after 36 minutes.

To reach the quarterfinals, Minh will have to beat Kuncoro Sony Dwi from Indonesia in a clash on May 4.

In the men’s doubles event, Minh’s teammates Duong Bao Duc and Nguyen Hoang Nam will meet Malaysian competitors Kah Ming Choi and Yao Han Ow after they trounced two players from New Zealand in the first round.
