More than 8,000 photos, taken by disabled residents of Thanh Hoa province and reflecting a personal perspective on their own lives, will be on display at a photo exhibition entitled “Doi Mat” (Facing), in Hanoi on February 25.
The exhibition, part of a joint project by the German Development Service (DED), Schmitz Fund of Germany and Thanh Hoa province’s Association for the Support of Disabled People and Orphans, aims to help the disabled better integrate into their community.
The amateur photographers, who include farmers, tailors, electricians, business directors and the unemployed among their number, hope that the exhibition challenges the public’s view of the disabled.
Following the opening ceremony, the photographers will meet with representatives of relevant agencies and other photographers to share views on the challenges facing the country’s disabled and the opportunities that are open to them.
