The Ministry of Education and Training in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a meeting in Hanoi on August 2 to review the results of a technical assistance project for teachers in northern Bac Giang province.

The project, implemented from September 2004 to August 2007, benefits teachers of 135 primary schools in five districts of northern Bac Giang province. Japan contributed US$24 million to the project.

Yoshitaka Tanaka said the project aims to improve the capacity of teachers and school managers to improve the quality of education in primary schools. During the three-year pilot in the province, many new teaching methods have been applied and many education-related activities and exchanges have also been held between teachers and pupils.

Nguyen Tien Tho, director of the Bac Giang provincial Department of Education and Training, said the project has helped teachers in Bac Giang province develop a better teaching methodology aimed at encouraging the creativity of pupils.
