The Vietnam Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Swiss Embassy in Hanoi have invited famous Swiss cellist, Markus Nyikos to perform Bach's Suite for cello solo and works by Beethoven, Klaus Huber, Willy Burkhard and Arthur Honegger in the capital city on March 30.

Born in 1948 in Basel, Switzerland, Markus Nyikos won the Swiss Soloist Prize in 1976, one year later he was a double prize-winner at the Gaspar Cassado Competition in Florence, Italy. He has also been the recipient of several fellowships and chamber music awards.

Nyikos is a member of the Philharmonisches Klavierquartett Berlin (piano quartet) and the principal cellist of the Philharmonische Virtuosen Berlin (chamber orchestra).

He also performed for many years with the Twelve Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonique Orchestra. He has recorded more than a dozen albums and has travelled worldwide.

The performance is due to begin at 8 pm. Tickets are available at 11 Nui Truc Lane, Hanoi.
