He finished third in his group and 6th out of 16 athletes competing in the qualifiers, clocking 35s39.

His great result earned him a place in the final stage, scheduled to start at 2.am on August 31.

It is likely he will bring home a medal if he can manage to reduce his time by 1 second or so.

Brazil’s Daniel Dias came first in the qualifiers on 32s27, followed by Sebastian Rodriguez pulling in 33s05.

Tung, who was born in 1985 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, was the champion of the 50m and runner-up of the 100m free style events at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China.

He won two Praralympic A standards for 50 and 100m freestyle events and another B for the 50m butterfly at the tournament.

At the London Summer Games, Tung will be competing in four events, namely the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.
