A Swedish literature week opened at the East-West Culture and Language Centre in Hanoi on May 18, premiering a selected collection of Swedish poems in the Vietnamese language.

This is part of a project entitled “Assisting Vietnamese culture for sustainable development between 2005-2009” with funding from the Swedish Government.

Seven poets, translators and the director of Sweden’s Tranan Publishing House will meet with Vietnamese colleagues and Hanoian students at the event to exchange their views on literature as well as the Vietnamese and Swedish peoples.

Seminars for literature and culture students will be held in Hanoi and the central cities of Vinh and Ha Tinh during the week.

Tranan Director Styrbjorn Gustafsson said that his publishing house has so far translated 8 Vietnamese literature works into Swedish and they have been well received by Swedish readers.

He added that the publisher plans to publish a collection of Vietnamese poems in Sweden in the near future.
