Another two sets of dan da (stone percussion instruments) have recently been discovered in the central highland province of Lam Dong, making a total five lithophones found locally to date.

The dan da, comprising of 53 stone slabs, were discovered in Hoa Nam and Lien Dam communes in Di Linh district, said Doan Bich Ngo, Vice Director of the Lam Dong museum .

Out of the 30 slabs found in Hoa Nam, 18 remain intact while the rest have been partly broken. The lithophone in Lien Dam has 23 pieces, with only 4 broken.

Archaeologists say that the new lithophones were made of the same type of stone and the same shaping techniques were used to make the slabs produce the correct notes when played.

Their slabs were arranged the same way as the ones previously found in Dinh La and Son Dien communes, which are also in Di Linh district.
