A concert featuring 10 pieces of Spain’s musical treasures will be held in the evening of May 31 at the Hanoi Opera House to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Spanish-Vietnamese diplomatic relations.
Under the baton of Spanish conductor Carlos Cuesta, the Hanoi Philharmonic will open the concert with Apoteosis del Fandango by Tomas Marco.
Fandango, which represents both traditional and contemporary dancing and singing, has been popular in Spain since the 19th century. The piece is Marco’s tribute to his country’s ancient culture.
The programme will continue with a composition for flute, percussion and harp by Vietnamese musician Pham Minh Thanh. The three-part work is based on the Vietnamese legend, Truong Chi’s Flute.
The first half of the concert will end with Don Quixote Velando las Armas (Don Quixote’s Guard Weapon) by Gerardo Gombau.
In the second half, there will be a series of romantic pieces by Spanish composers, including Prelude El Tambor de Granaderos, Interlude El Anillo de Hierro and interlude of Laleyenda del Beso (Legend of the Kiss).
