A seminar on similarities between the cultures of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) was held in Hanoi on June 19, as part of the Vietnam-RoK Cultural Festival to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

The seminar was co-organized by the College of Foreign Languages under the National University of Vietnam, the Kyung Hee University of the RoK, the Asian Music Research Institute and the Vietnam-RoK Cultural Centre. Present at the event were head of the Kyung Hee University Son Je Sik, RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Kim Eui Ki, head of the College of Foreign Languages Nguyen Van Loi and a large number of Vietnamese and RoK students.


The event aimed to promote mutual understanding and tighten cooperative relations between the two countries.

 

During the seminar, participants discussed cultural similarities between the countries, such as the East Asian community through “RoK wave” phenomenon, Hanlyu impacts on Vietnam through films, socio-politics and the culture of the RoK. Similarities in the meanings of the two countries’ proverbs, the development process and economic prospects of the RoK and similar features in the history of national construction in Vietnam and the RoK were also topics of interest.
