Vietnam booked a berth for the semi-finals of the ongoing ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women's Championship after a 4-2 win over the Philippines on September 15.

After a crushing 10-0 victory over Singapore two days earlier, coach Chen Yun Fat arranged major players, including striker Nguyen Thi Hoa and goalie Kieu Trinh, to stay on the bench.

Without key players, Vietnamese players, who were in good form, still took control of the game.

Striker Nguyen Thi Muon put Vietnam ahead on 15 minutes before midfielder Kim Tien doubled the score 10 minutes later.

After the interval, Chen continued to substitute several players to test young hopefuls. However, Vietnam got the first losing goal after goalie Tuyet Mai’s fault, and Marie carved out the scoring chance to narrow the gap.

Hosts Vietnam responded immediately with captain Kim Hong setting up for Thanh Huong to fire the ball in.

On 66 minutes, Tuyet Dung scored her first goal in the tournament, extending Vietnam’s lead.

Goalie Tuyet Mai’s fault again in the last minutes of the game earned the Philippines the second goal by Impelido.

After two wins, Vietnam now stay atop Group A with six points. They will play the last group match against Myanmar on September 17.
