Female fencers took a gold medal in the foil team event on November 18, bringing the total number of gold medals for Vietnam to 70.

After beating their Indonesian rivals 24-19 in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese fencers outclassed Singaporean girls in the final game to win the fifth gold medal for the national fencing team.

Earlier the same day, Tran Le Quoc Toan carried off the 69th gold medal for Vietnam in the men’s 56kg weight category.

Vietnamese athletes are expected to bring home between 4-6 gold medals when they enter competitions in Wushu, weightlifting and fencing on November 18.

Vietnam has set a target of winning approximately 70 gold medals at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The games began on November 11 and will last through November 22.
