The Embassy of the Republic of Korea (RoK) will help promote Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay and encourage RoK people to vote the World Heritage Site as one of seven new world wonders till the end of 2008, says ambassador Im Hong-jae.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony for an exhibition on Ha Long Bay in Hanoi on March 6, ambassador Im Hong-jae said that his embassy supports the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s campaign to promote the bay as a new world wonder, with assistance from the RoK’s Kumho Asiana Group.

The bay is a pride of the Vietnamese people and the RoK is willing to share the pride with Vietnam, said the ambassador.

Asiana Airlines also pledged to launch a promotional programme for Ha Long Bay on its flights.

On February 16, the RoK Embassy in Vietnam ran a Ha Long Bay banner on its website
www.hanquocngaynay.com, guiding Internet users to join the voting.

At present, Ha Long Bay is leading the voting for seven new world wonders on the Website www.new7wonders.com launched by the NewOpenWorld.

Two other beauty spots of Vietnam, namely the Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto and Fansipan mountain, were also among the seven top favourites.
