A replica of Mot Cot (One-Pillar) Pagoda – a cultural relic and a tourist attraction in Hanoi - was inaugurated at the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Park in the Thai province of Khonken on May 17.

Provincial officials described the pagoda as a symbol of the friendship between the people of Thailand and Vietnam, and particularly between the Khonken locals and the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

Considered as Vietnam’s symbol, the pagoda alongside with the park will honour cultural values as well as historical and religious similarities between the two nations.

Construction of the pagoda began in August 2007 at a cost of 1.7 million baht, of which 1 million was granted by Khonken authorities and the remainder by the overseas Vietnamese community in the province.
