A series of rare and precious birds which have been absent for dozens of years have returned to Ca Mau Cape National Park in the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

Noteworthy are two rare species of birds, the “Sen” bird (Paintstock-mycteria- leucocephana) and the “Chang Be” (Spot-pilled pelican- Pelecanus - Philippensis).

The park's director Tran Tuan said thousands of birds have been migrating to the park, which was established under the Prime Minister's decision in 1999.

Ca Mau Cape National Park, with a total acreage of 20,000ha, including 10,000ha of mangrove forest wetlands, is ideal habitat for various birds. Every year, the park attracts hundreds of tourist groups as well as foreign scientists.

Park authorities have taken many drastic measures to protect the natural environment, particularly preventing human presence in places where these rare birds nest.
