The congress elected a 31-member executive board and Duong Trung Quoc, general director of the Vietnam Association of History Research, as President of UNESCO Hanoi.
In the 2007-2012 term, UNESCO Hanoi will focus on promoting Vietnam’s efforts to preserve its cultural identity and introducing the Vietnamese capital to international friends, in anticipation for the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The association’s traditional activities, such as song and dance festivals and social mobilization campaigns to support poor people and Agent Orange victims, will take place in various forms. The association will boost collective activities to promote the role of young members in developing cultural and educational activities. In addition, the association will expand international cooperation relations through sports, tourism and trade exchanges with other countries in the world.
To date, UNESCO Hanoi has developed 25 centers, attracting nearly 3,000 members. Many centers and clubs have fulfilled a key role in the city’s socio-cultural activities, such as UNESCO traditional music club, UNESCO old-aged culture and sports club, UNESCO tourism center, UNESCO Vietnam-China cultural exchange club, Hanoi Book Club and UNESCO Thien Thanh cultural exchange club.
