The Ministry of Education and Training along with the Ministry of Information and Communications held a prize-giving ceremony for the 37th UPU/UNESCO Letter-Writing Competition on June 25 in Hanoi.

The 37th UPU competition with the theme “Write a letter to someone to tell them why the world needs tolerance” was first launched for young Vietnamese people in October 2007. After 8 months, the organizing board has received 1,950,000 letters from pupils nationwide.

Writer Nguyen Tri Huan, vice-chairman of Vietnam Writers’ Association, remarked that lots of the letters showed love and compassion for unfortunate people as well as expressing sympathy frankly and sincerely.

71 letters from 17 localities were chosen to take part in the final round. 39 won individual prizes, including 1 first, 4 second, 5 third and 29 consolation prizes. The first prize was awarded to Ho Thi Que Chi, a 10-grade pupil from northern Bac Ninh province.
