More than 600 Cham people, domestic pilgrims and foreign tourists are celebrating the Goddess Ponagar Festival, which opened on May 8 in central Khanh Hoa province.
The province has been hard at work to prepare for the event and has poured more than VND3.3 billion (US$206,000) into upgrading facilities for the festival, which is held from the 21st to 23rd days of the third lunar month of the year.
During the festival, nearly 30 delegations from the central provinces of Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, and Lam Dong will pay offerings to the Goddess.
According to local folklore, the Ponagar festival commemorates Po Nogar, who introduced farming techniques into the area.
