The Goethe Institute Hanoi has opened an exhibition entitled "Vietnam portrait – a look from outside", which features Vietnamese social strata in the period 1885-1915 through 40 rare and lively photographs.
French photographers captured the images of the country, residential regions, and inhabitants in French-occupied areas. They left begin a good stock of thousands of photo albums, especially photos that depict Vietnamese people and their lives in the early 20th century.
At the exhibition, viewers can learn about classical arts conveyed in the works by French artists.
