The Vietnamese film "Chuyen Cua Pao" (Pao's Story) was selected to compete for an Oscar at the 2007 Annual Academy Awards.

The Vietnam Cinamatography Department said it has finalised the paperwork for the film to vie for an academy award for Best Foreign Language Film. However, the film will only be sent to the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after the screening of it is completed in some areas in the US.

"Pao's Story", directed by Ngo Quang Hai, won the Vietnam Cinematography Association's 2005 Golden Kite Award for the best movie category and had its world debut at the last Cannes Film Festival.

Set in the breathtaking landscape of a rural and mountainous province of Vietnam, the film tells the story of a H'mong girl named Pao on her journey to find her mother, who left her when she was young. In her quest, she discovers unresolved secrets from her family's past.
