Half of the project's funding estimated at US$102,000 will come from the Waseda Heritage Institution of Japan and the rest from the Former Hue Imperial City Conservation Centre.

The Long Duc Palace was a wooden structure built by King Gia Long of the Nguyen Dynasty in 1804, carrying the original architecture of Hue imperial palaces, now in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. However, the building has continued to deteriorate.

The project is part of a programme to conserve the entire Can Chanh Palace in the complex of the Imperial Enclosure, which is scheduled to be completed by 2009.
