Cultural researchers have collected and tape-recorded 801 epics of the Ede, M’Nong, Bana, Xe Dang, Cham, S’Tieng, and Ma ethnic minority groups in the Central Highlands in an effort to conserve this valuable cultural asset.
They have also made a list of 388 ethnic minority artists in the region who are able to recite the epics and made 15 documentaries about epic recitals.
These were the results of a VND17.3 billion project to survey, collect and preserve epics in the five Central Highland provinces, and the neighbouring provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Phuoc.
A 62-chapter collection book of 75 epics was published on December 6, 2007 as part of the seven-year project.
