A ceremony to honour outstanding students at international competitions during the past 20 years of the Doi Moi (renovation) process was held in Hanoi on July 12 by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union in co-ordination with the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Online Newspaper and Vietnam Television (VTV).

The event drew the participation of Secretary of the CPV Central Committee To Huy Rua, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of Culture and Information Le Doan Hop and more than 70 representatives of the 415 outstanding students who have won international prizes since 1974.

The ceremony aimed to encourage students throughout the country to uphold tradition of hard study, self-improvement and eagerness to record greater achievements to contribute to the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.

The event celebrated the success of the 10th National Party Congress, affirming the importance of the Party and State in cultivating new talents for the nation in the past years.

Speaking at the ceremony

, vice chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Ideology – Culture Commission Dr. Dao Duy Quat said at any stage of history Vietnam does has many heroes and talented people who bring honour to the nation.

 

“To boost the country’s development, it is essential to develop the human factor. Therefore, the mobilisation of intellectual resources is vital to help Vietnam become a powerful country,” said Mr Quat.

 

“Over the past 20 years of Doi Moi, Vietnam has made every effort to record remarkable achievements in education through broadening people’s knowledge, improving professional skills and nurturing talents in various fields. These achievements are of great historic significance in the 20 year-old process of Doi Moi. Vietnamese talents has been recognised and honoured and they have become a source of pride for the nation. Talented people are the life-sustaining element of the nation and a valuable asset of humankind,” he stressed.

Earlier, a seminar on cultivating the mind and improving the behaviour of Vietnamese youths in the renewal process was held at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on July 12 as part of activities to honour prize-wining students at international competitions.
