OCA evaluates ASIAD 2019 bids

(VOV) - Officials of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) are making a fact-finding tour of three cities bidding to host the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD).

Hanoi of Vietnam, Dubai of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Surabaya of Indonesia are bidding for the continent’s largest sporting event.

OCA officials are scheduled to meet with government officials and tour venues proposed for the games during their October 1-9 trip.

The OCA will announce the name of the host country at its 31st General Assembly meeting in Macau, China, in early November 2012.

ASIAD 18, due to take place in November 2019, will see the participation of approximately 10,000 coaches and athletes from 45 countries and territories who compete in 35 sports.

Vietnam is a potential contender as it successfully organised the 22nd Southeast Asian Games in 2003 and the third Asian Indoor Games in 2009.

In its dossier submitted to the OCA, the Vietnam Olympic Committee estimated that US$150 million would be allocated for this sporting event.
