Female singer Uyen Linh outdid her rival Van Mai Huong to win the 2010 Vietnam Idol contest, which is modelled on the shows in the US.

Most contestants were present at the result announcing gala on December 25.

The gala opened with a modern rendition of a folk song, ‘Beo dat may troi’, sung by AnB band. The song was followed by ‘Giac mo Chapi’ (Chapi dream) performed by the Du muc (Nomads) group and other performances by the contest’s top 10 singers.

Mai Huong, one of the contest’s two finalists, showed her confidence on a big stage, according to composer Quoc Trung.

Uyen Linh immediately responded with ‘Giac mo nao voi toi’.

Despite troubles from the recent scandal, singers Duc Anh and Dang Khoa performed together, singing the ‘Dai kho’ written by Nguyen Hai Phong.

Both Mai Huong and Uyen Linh had a chance to sing together, with Vietnam’s leading divas Hong Nhung and My Linh. They performed ‘Mot ngay moi’ and ‘I believe I can fly’.

After being announced as the 2010 Vietnam Idol, Uyen Linh sang ‘Cam on tinh yeu’.

Being the runner-up, 16-year-old Mai Huong from Hanoi is believed to make great progress in future.
