The Fuji Maru cruise ship with nearly 500 Japanese students on board arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on August 24 on the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
The Japanese delegation was welcomed by HCM City’s Union of Friendship Associations, Youth Union and Saigontourist travel agents.
This was part of a special programme organised by Hyogo provincial authorities and international associations in Japan over the summer vacation, with the aim of promoting cultural understanding among countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as boosting cooperation among universities in Japan, China, Vietnam and Singapore.
During their two-day stay in HCM City, the Japanese guests will join a cultural exchange with students. They will later visit Cu Chi, My Tho and some other areas in the Mekong Delta region and enjoy a “homestay” in HCM City to learn more about daily life in Vietnam.
The 23,235-tonne cruise ship has brought many students from universities and colleges in Hyogo prefecture to different countries to join exchange programmes.
