National women’s football championship begins

Six teams will contest the annual tournament organised by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Last year’s champions Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) will try to defend their title against challengers Hanoi I and II, Phong Phu Ha Nam, Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The first leg of the championship will run until March 26 using a round robin format. The second leg is scheduled from June 9 to 22 at Ha Nam stadium.

The tournament’s first match, part of the March 8 opening ceremony, was a hard fought battle between Phong Phu Ha Nam and Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel. Hosts Phong Phu Ha Nam emerged triumphant with a final score of 2-0.
