National taekwondo champs opens in Hanoi

As many as 300 martial artists from 28 teams across the country are taking part the 2011 National Taekwondo Tournament for Strong Clubs that opened in Hanoi on December 12.

They are competing in two different age categories for 44 sets of medals in performance and combat events.

There are ten weight categories in the combat events between 44kg-73kg for men and women martial artists aged between 14-17 and eight weight classes from 49kg-over 80kg for those aged over 18.

Men’s and women’s singles, doubles and teams will compete in the Taegeuk, Koryo, Keumgang, Taebaek, Pyongwon, and Shipjin performance events.

The tournament is held jointly by the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation (VTF) and the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
