The exhibition is held every five years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to review works by Vietnamese artists.
Vietnamese artists based both at home and overseas will be encouraged to send their paintings, graphics, sculptures and installations, created since 2006 to the selection panel.
Each artist can send three photographs of examples of their work. Sculpture need to have photographs taken from all four perspectives. Installations need to be shot from five angles (panorama, front, right, left and rear).

The selection panel will select the best works by photograph for the first round. After that the works will be viewed in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCM City by the judges to select the winners and others for the exhibition.
